Correr Museum Library
Correr Museum Library
The Library was founded together with the Correr Museum in 1830 by bequest of the Venetian patrician Teodoro Correr (1750-1830), which gives the city of Venice, its art collections, memories homelands and a rich library of printed books and manuscripts. In this original group soon added other related and began a policy of responding to the need to purchase a city museum that would collect the historical and artistic treasures of Venice. The Library increased with time on its heritage of ancient books, pamphlets, printed books and manuscripts through bequests of noble families and celebrities, including the erudite bibliophile Emmanuele Cicogna Antonio (1789-1868), what characterizes the historical collections, of the highest quality documentary and art, reflecting the tastes and preferences of family archives and private libraries. Today, the Correr Museum Library is a library of preservation of historical collections and a research institute of art history and Venetian history, and, as the library of the Museum, is a useful tool for professional development for the city’s other cultural institutions, research site for scholars and students.
