Rialto

In the heart of Venice

Rialto area is far more than Rialto bridge: located in the sestiere of San Polo, it includes churches, fondacos and the market. Fondacos were warehouses and headquarters for foreign merchants, and together with the historical Rialto market they testifies the importance of trade for Rialto area. Here were sold salt, pepper and spices that Venetians imported from Asia, so that this neighbourhood could be considered not only the oldest, but also the most important and brisk district of the town. Rialto area is also the geographical centre of Venice.
