San Geremia (Church)

Centre of devotion to Saint Lucy

San Geremia church in Venice, rebuilt in XVIII century, is actually dedicated to two saints: San Geremia and Santa Lucia (St. Lucy). A church dedicated to her already existed on what is today known as Santa Lucia railway station; demolished in order to provide space for the new building in 1860, the worship of Saint Lucy began to take place inside San Geremia/Santa Lucia church.
Here, it is guarded the saint’s body, one of the most important saints of Christianity, visited by pilgrims from all across the world.
The church has two similar facades, both completed in 1871, one facing the Grand Canal and the other (which is also the entrance) facing San Geremia square.
