Santo Stefano (Church)

A canal under Santo Stefano in Venice

Santo Stefano church in Venice is located on the homonym square, a wide campo at a short distance from the Accademia bridge. However, its facade is not on the square, but rather on the busy street towards campo Sant’Angelo, making it more difficult for passers-by to admire its marble portal by Bartolomeo Bon. However, the church was enlarged until it reached the rio Santissimo canal on its backside, at the point that it is possible to bass under the building on a boat.
Santo Stefano church, consacrated in 1374, has typical XIV century features and contains paintings by Tintoretto and Palma il Vecchio and Bordon.
