Regata Storica

A travel back in time

The Regata Storica of Venice is probably the most spectacular one among Venetian events: a procession of XVI century style boats sails the Grand Canal, lead by the Bucintoro, the Doge’s boat that was anciently used to celebrate the ceremony of the wedding of Venice with the Sea.
People who participate into the Regata Storica wear historical costumes, and to a visitor this will really look like a travel back in time. After the conclusion of the procession of the Regata Storica, boat races take place, involving different types of lagoon’s boats (caorline, gondolini, mascarete, etc.) competing from Sant’Elena island until railway station.
