Fighting the moto ondoso

Vogalonga boat race is an event born in 1974 from the initiative of a group of Venetians who liked rowing and were worried about the phenomenon of moto ondoso, the rising of the water due to the passage of motorized boats.
During Vogalonga, motorized boats are not allowed to sail in the town, while hundreds of traditional boats race for 32 kilometres until the arrival to the Punta della Dogana.
In the last years, the popularity of the Vogalonga grew even abroad, so that today also foreign teams participate to it, this way supporting the local industry of shipbuilding and boat repairing.
