Barely panning a querter of Century, The Vogalonga (the long row), has already made a significant contribution to the Venetian history and stands out among the many spring rowing events.
The event started in 1975 from the initiative of a group of Venetians who were passionate about rowing and raising awardeness of the problem of motor boat traffic in the lagoon.

On the day of the Vogalonga, a huge number of rowing boats (around 1500) of every shape and form at St. Mark’s Basin opposite the Doge’s Palace, ready to start the 30 km race.
The route winds around around the lagoon island before re-entering Venice via the rio di Cannaregio and finishing at Punta della Dogana.

The Vogalonga is open to anyone who wishes to partecipate.
