San Rocco (Church)
Patron saint of plague-stricken people
San Rocco church in Venice stays in the homonym square, just beside the more famous and impressive Scuola Grande di San Rocco. The church was built in 1598 by Bon, but was partially rebuilt due to danger of collapse in the XVIII century by Scalfarotto, with the new facade designed by Fossati.
San Rocco (Saint Rochus) is considered the patron saint of sick people, in particular of plague-stricken people, so since the plague of 1575/1576, public authorities used to visit his church for thanksgiving for the end of the plague.
