The main picture gallery of the town

Accademia Gallery of Venice, the most important picture gallery of the town, provides visitors with an overview on Venetian painting, from Middle Age to XVIII century.
Masterpieces by the main Venetian artists, such as Bellini, Titian, Giorgione, Tintoretto and Veronese, can be admired here, also because many of their works were moved to Accademia Gallery after churches or convents where they used to stay had been suppressed and closed by Napoleon in early XIX century.
The buildings which nowadays host Accademia Gallery had the same destiny: Accademia museum is housed by the former church and Scuola Grande di Santa Maria della Carità and by the convent of Canonici Lateranensi.
