Abydos show in San Giovanni Evangelista a Venezia

A piece of Egypt on show in Venice, a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a real treasure. From June 2 to October 21, 2012, in the beautiful Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista in Venice, the exhibition will take place The Temple of Isis Unveiled – Ancient Egypt nell’Osireion of Abydos.

Abydos is an archaeological site rich in history and magical atmosphere, outside the usual tourist routes. In the desert, the place was dedicated to the worship of the god of the underworld, Osiris, on whose death there followed numerous legends.

Beyond the myth, today is only visible to Abydos Temple of Seti (1,279 BC), but a few meters there is another temple that dates back to 4,000 BC dedicated to Osiris.

The exhibition will be rebuilt in the actual size “of the sarcophagus room” with the astronomical ceiling depicting the goddess Nut, goddess of the sky, which is located in the Temple of Osiris. The images will lead visitors on a fascinating journey in which you can admire the historical finds from Abydos, granted by the Archaeological Museum of Florence, including a beautiful head of Seti I in granite, a bust of Ramses II and a wooden sarcophagus with ‘image of the goddess NUT of Ptolemaic lying in the warehouses of the Egyptian Museum of Florence.

The program also includes meetings with renowned Egyptologists.
