San Pantaleone / San Pantalon (Church)

An amazing ceiling

San Pantalon church in Venice was built in XVI century on an older church.
San Pantalon is famous for its Baroque ceiling, believed to be the largest oil painting in the world, made by 40 canvases sewn together. It was painted by Fumiani and represents the martyrdom of Saint Pantaleon, with an amazing illusionistic effect. Such an impressive work took 24 years to be completed. On the outside, the facade remained indeed unfinished.

San Pantalon square is close to campo Santa Margherita and can be easily reached from Ca’ Rezzonico water bus stop on the Grand Canal or even from Piazzale Roma.
